Beginning with its conception in 1953, Nittany Theatre at the Barn is the oldest arena barn theatre in Pennsylvania and one of the oldest in the nation. Preserving this treasured legacy drives our dedication to provide the finest in theatrical entertainment for residents and visitors of Happy Valley. To better serve our audience, we’ve renovated and enlarged the stage area, replaced and reupholstered our seats, and installed state-of-the-art LED lighting and Broadway quality sound systems, all while retaining the charm and intimacy of our ¾ thrust stage of 99 sweet seats. We are confident that these improvements will reclaim the Barn’s historic position as the area’s most renowned theatre venue.
- To honor the traditions of summer stock theatre in the historic and treasured 19th century Barn theatre;
- To present high quality, affordable family entertainment for the enjoyment of our audiences; and
- To support, inspire, encourage, and celebrate the performing arts in Centre County with our innovative programs, partnerships, and educational outreach.
Our vision is to keep our eyes on the prize: To save the Barn, to keep traditional summer theatre alive, vital and thriving, and to serve Centre County for the present and next generations of theatregoers!
To accomplish these lofty goals, Nittany Theatre at the Barn is committed to creative development, giving artists the opportunity to apply their talents in ways they otherwise would not be able to, blending old with new, fostering new talents and enriching audiences.
